The Pale-Throated Three-Toed Sloth (Bradypus tridactylus) lives life in ultra-slow motion. Moving at a maximum speed of 1 foot per minute on the ground, sloths have evolved a metabolic rate so low that it takes them up to 30 days to digest a single leaf.

A single sloth’s coat is an entire living ecosystem housing hundreds of specialized sloth moths (Cryptoses choloepi), beetles, fungi, and algal colonies. Once a week, the sloth makes a perilous journey down to the forest floor to defecate, providing a breeding ground for its moth passengers in a perfect cooperative loop.
