# Burrower Animals (Page 2 of 2)

> Excavating subterranean tunnels for temperature control, predator safety, and secure nursery dens.

**29 species in this collection.**

- [Sacred Scarab](https://animaltracks.wiki/animals/sacred-scarab/) (*Scarabaeus sacer*)
  - **Superpower**: Rolled dung balls of 16 to 86 cc in a Turkish study, and holds flight heat in its thorax
  - **Musical Match**: Kavinsky (80s Retrowave & Synthwave)
- [Short-Beaked Echidna](https://animaltracks.wiki/animals/echidna/) (*Tachyglossus aculeatus*)
  - **Superpower**: An electric sense in the snout, the first known in a land animal, plus 693 scent-receptor genes to the platypus's 299, which may help it search for the odours of underground prey.
  - **Musical Match**: The Drones (Art Punk & Experimental Post-Punk)
- [Sunda Pangolin](https://animaltracks.wiki/animals/sunda-pangolin/) (*Manis javanica*)
  - **Superpower**: Overlapping, sharp-tipped scales, and a well-developed neuromuscular system that curls it into a ball over its scaleless belly
  - **Musical Match**: 1000mods (Heavy Psych & Desert Rock)
- [Sydney Funnel-Web Spider](https://animaltracks.wiki/animals/sydney-funnel-web-spider/) (*Atrax robustus*)
  - **Superpower**: Robustoxin (delta-atracotoxin-Ar1), a 42-amino-acid peptide in male venom that stops some sodium channels in nerve cells from switching off properly. Its toxin family likely evolved to deter vertebrate predators such as bandicoots, birds and lizards, but robustoxin severely affects the nervous systems of humans and monkeys.
  - **Musical Match**: Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (Classic Hard Rock & Southern Blues)
- [Tiger Pistol Shrimp](https://animaltracks.wiki/animals/pistol-shrimp/) (*Alpheus bellulus*)
  - **Superpower**: A claw whose plunger-and-socket mechanism fires a cavitating water jet; in a related snapping shrimp, the bubble it creates collapses at temperatures of at least 5,000 kelvin and flashes with light.
  - **Musical Match**: The Dillinger Escape Plan (Mathcore & Chaotic Noise)
