Overview
The Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae) is an ancient ground-dwelling Australian songbird celebrated for having the most complex vocal mimicry system in the animal kingdom. On purpose-built courtship mounds, males erect a majestic silvery lyre of tail feathers while outputting an acoustic symphony.
Habitat & Biology
Inhabits the moist, temperate eucalyptus valleys and coastal rainforests of southeastern Australia, from southern Victoria up to southeastern Queensland.
