Overview
The Brazilian Wandering Spider (Phoneutria nigriventer), also known as the armed spider, is a large, active nocturnal predator. Rather than spinning webs, it wanders the forest floor at night. When cornered, it rears up on its hind legs, exposing bright red chelicerae in a striking threat dance.

Native to the Atlantic Forest and Amazon basin in Brazil, northern Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
